The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and the joint venture of the Millennium Campus Network (MCN) offer Millennium Fellowships every year.
This year, more than 2400 campuses applied for the fellowship, and only 200 were selected for the program.
26 students will represent the University of Chittagong and Bangladesh in this prestigious program with their specific socially impactful and beneficial projects.
As a result, each fellow is contributing to a positive impact on society and the community by engaging in some significant project.
Md. Nazmul Hasan Rakib, Reazul Mostafa, Athar Noor, and Tasnia Tahasin Sapi are four fellows working on the project 'Elysium for Tomorrow's Hope,' which aims to focus on SDG 4 and find poor children who are deprived of education and have dropped out of school due to COVID-19—providing them training, life skills, and formal education.
Samia Ibnat Anika and Samsera Amreen Prithula are conducting a project titled 'Project Aquarius,' focusing on SDG 6 and ensuring safe water for students, teachers, and local residents on the Chittagong University campus.
Subha Samun, Nahian Naba, Sefayet A. Jannat Efath, Intesar Osman, and Asma Ara Alam, MD Shaharia Arfin Tasnub, Jobaier Ibne Deen, and Malihan Momtaz are leading 'Project Obadh,' focusing on SDG 3, ensuring safety, and helping female students of CU maintain their menstrual hygiene and arrange sanitary pad facilities.
Takwa Kabir, Rukaiya Hasan Juhi, and Nowshin Jahan's project is 'Plastic Free Lifestyle,' focusing on SDG 14.
Hasibul Hasan, another Millennium Fellow from CU, is leading the 'Greener Initiative to Turn Waste into Compost,' a project based on SDGs 11 and 13 that is a collaboration with Earth Chapter CU.
The Fellows Alif Haider, Sayeed Al Mamun, and Kayes Md. Sayfullah are jointly leading a project called 'Let's Talk,' which aspires to build a toxic-free and healthy environment for fulfilling SDG 3.
Lastly, Tasmia Mostafa, Ayesha Akter, Joyeta Barua, and Umme Laiba Raha, leading their project, 'E-cycle from Home,' focusing on SDG 11 and 3.
Established in 2008, the Millennium Campus Network (MCN) is a non-profit organisation that trains 21st-century social impact leaders.
Millennium Fellows are university undergraduates selected based on their leadership on sustainable development-related projects that advance the SDGs in their communities.
As Millennium Fellows, they will participate in a semester-long leadership development program that brings together student leaders from around the world. It aims to assist students in developing values, professional abilities, and career paths necessary to thrive.
According to the MCN, fellowship campuses have training sessions facilitated by the campus directors, who receive prior training from the MCN directly. The training sessions will be held on campus. The sessions are designed and structured by global experts to prepare the fellows to take action, build socially impactful careers, and, at the same time, promote the SDGs globally.
The whole program is campus-oriented and curated by the directors. This cohort's campus directors are Kayes and Hasibul. At the end of the fellowship, a fellow is given a certificate of appreciation for his work on various projects throughout the semester.
Along with the University of Chittagong, the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), BRAC University, Dhaka University, North South University, and Asian University for Women are set to represent Bangladesh in this prestigious program.
