WB provides $50m to develop housing for slum dwellers

The World Bank has provided US$ 50 million to help develop standard housing facilities for the lower income people.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith came up with the statement while replying to a query placed by a lawmaker in the parliament on Wednesday.

The global lender has approved the fund for the ‘Low Income Community Housing Support Project’ to construct housing facilities for the slum people,” said the minister.

To this end, a credit agreement was also signed between the World Bank and the government, reports BSS.

The main objective of the project is to build housing facilities for the poor slum dwellers at the area under two city corporation, a pourasava and 19 communities, he said.

Even the project will help create livelihood development of slum dwellers through supplying water, electricity, sewerage facilities and construction drains, he added.

Earlier, the name of the project was “Pro-poor Slums Integration Project.”
