Country has witnessed a record production of over 4.96 million tonnes of vegetables in the last fiscal year (FY17), up by 300,000 tonnes from previous fiscal year (FY16), according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The total production of vegetables was 3.67 million tonnes in FY16.
Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal revealed the figures at a press conference held at National Economic Council (NEC) conference room in the capitals Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Thursday.
Replying to a question on the soaring prices of vegetables, Kamal said unfavorable weather affects the supply of vegetables. Besides, transport cost is also high, he said and added that there is also a tendency of making high profits by traders. Once up prices of goods do not come down, he added.
