A research centre on small and medium enterprises (SME) is essential to further develop the sector among the D-8 member countries.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu opined this on Thursday while speaking at the ministerial plenary session at the "6th Ministerial Meeting on D-8 Industrial Cooperation" at Abuja in Nigeria.
"D-8 member countries can ensure their socio-economic development through SME," he said, quotes BSS citing a press release.
The industries minister suggested the D-8 member countries to ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as early as possible to enhance the relations for developing SME sector.
Amu said the D-8, an economic alliance of Muslim countries, can play a vital role to expedite world trade.
He also suggested the D-8 member countries to take up joint investment projects in the automobile, shipbuilding, apparel, petrochemical, software and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sectors.
Nigerian Industries and Commerce Minister Dr Okechukwu Enelamah, Egypt Industries and Commerce Minister Engineer Tarek Qabil and Iran Industries and Mineral Resource Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh were present at the session, among others.
D-8 is an organisation for development co-operation among Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria,Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia,Pakistan, and Turkey.
