Indian ‘godman’ Rampal acquitted in two cases

Now an Indian court acquitted a ‘godman’, Rampal, in two criminal cases regarding obstruction to government officers from doing duty and rioting.

And the scene was reverse this time around—his disciples welcomed the exoneration of their guru by the Hisar court, according to a media report.

Rampal has been behind bars since 2014. That year, a court ordered the police to arrest Rampal, 67, after he had ignored more than 40 court summons for appearance.

When police personnel reached the headquarters of his sect, Satlok Ashram in Hisar, to pick up him, Rampal’s followers barricaded themselves inside the 12-acre premises. Power and water supplies to the ashram were cut off, and after a two-week standoff, he was finally arrested.

Rampal’s followers immediately took to Twitter welcoming the court verdict. “Sach kbhi nhi chupta..dekhlo jhuthe aarop lgane walo aaj rampal jiko bari kiya gya,” wrote one Disha.

Few days back, a much-talked-about godman bearing a crafted nomenclature, Ram Rahim Singh, was sentenced to 20 years in jail in two rape cases.

His followers went on the rampage after his conviction, and at least 38 people lost their lives in the deadly violence.
