The Chinese National People’s Congress (NPC) is going to review the draft decision of improving the electoral system of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR) during its annual session.

According to a statement by the embassy of China in Dhaka, China’s national legislature held a press conference Thursday night, ahead of the opening of its annual session in this connection.

Zhang Yesui, spokesperson for the fourth session of the 13th NPC, told the press conference that the upcoming session will review The Draft NPC Decision on Improving the Electoral System of HKSAR.

The electoral system of the HKSAR is an important part of its political structure.

What happened in recent years has proven the need to improve the system in steps with the times in order to provide a sound institutional guarantee for fully and faithfully implementing “one country, two systems” and fully implementing the principle of “patriots governing HKSAR”, the statement said.

As China’s top legislature, the NPC will exercise its power to make a decision at the constitutional level to improve the electoral system of the HKSAR.

The Chinese government is determined in implementing the policy of “one country, two systems” and “Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong with a high degree of autonomy”, safeguarding national sovereignty and security," the chinese embassy in Dhaka said.
