Vietnam immunises people with shots of different vaccines

Vietnamese health officials have allowed Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to be used interchangeably amid Covid vaccine supply shortages, according to Viet Nam News.

Since the beginning of the week, people in Vietnam's largest metropolis Ho Chi Minh city, most affected by the pandemic, have been offered a second dose of Pfizer as an alternative to the Moderna vaccine due to the supply shortage of the latter one.

The only source of Moderna for the country at the moment is a donation of 5 million doses from the US through COVAX Facility, Viet Nam News added.

Pfizer is expected to be more available in Vietnam as 51 million shots are to be supplied by the US by the end of this year.

The two vaccines are estimated as interchangeable by Vietnam's health authorities as both are mRNA vaccines, produced in similar ways and containing similar components.
