A collision between a truck and a bus in India’s Madhya Pradesh state has left at least seven people dead and 25 others injured on Sunday, said police.

The accident occurred in the morning in Mandsaur district when the speeding truck crashed into the passenger bus carrying some 40 people, including a driver and a helper, a police official said.

Seven passengers died on the spot while the injured have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of three are said to be serious, he said.

Eye-witnesses claimed the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was driving at a high speed.

“We have booked the truck and bus driver for rash and negligent driving. While the bus driver sustained injuries, a manhunt has been launched to track down the truck driver,” the official added.
