At least twelve people were killed in western Indian state of Rajasthan which was lashed by heavy rains and strong winds Wednesday night, officials said on Thursday.
"While seven people died in Dholpur, five others lost their lives in Bharatpur. A few of people suffered injuries as well," a disaster management official said.
Parts of Dholpur were also inundated, hitting normal life and affecting rush-hour morning traffic. The civic authorities are trying to clear the roads of water," another official said.
Local TV channels reported that movement of trains have been affected by heavy rains and railway authorities are doing their best to restore traffic on the Agra-Dholpur line.
A senior weather official said that more rains "are expected in the next 24 hours," reports Xinhua.
Rains are unusual in Rajasthan in the summer months of April to June. "But this time, it's different. More rains are expected Friday," the official added.
