Describing the war as the last option, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said peace cannot be attained without power.

"We have always seen war as the final resort. We are in favour of global peace. But peace cannot be achieved without strength," Modi said while celebrating Diwali with the soldiers deployed in Kargil, the joint capital of India’s union territory of Ladakh, on Monday.

"We have always considered war as the last option. Whether it took place in Lanka or Kurukshetra, till the end, every effort was made to prevent it. We are in the favour of world peace," said Modi.

According to NDTV, the Indian prime minister addressed soldiers as his "family" and said he couldn't have celebrated a better Diwali without them. He also praised their bravery and said there has been no war with Pakistan where Kargil has not seen victory.

"Sweetness and brightness of my Diwali are amid you," he told the soldiers
