The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) has risen to 3,059 including 45 deaths in Pakistan, according to the data updated by the country's health ministry.
The statistics presented by the ministry showed on Sunday evening that at least 512 people were tested positive while eight deaths were registered from Friday to Sunday, reports Xinhua.
The country's eastern Punjab province continued to be the most affected region with 1,319 confirmed cases, followed by southern Sindh province which recorded 881 cases so far.
The number of cases reached 372 in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 206 in north Gilgit-Baltistan region, 189 in southwest Balochistan province, and 78 in the capital Islamabad.
At least 15 people have lost their lives in Sindh, 14 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 12 in Punjab. Overall, 170 people across the country recovered and were discharged from the hospitals, which is about 5.6 percent of the total positive cases.
Earlier on Saturday, the government told the Supreme Court of Pakistan the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country might be over 50,000 by the end of April, including over 2,000 critical cases. However, the government officials added that the figures are merely based on assumptions while observing the trends in the country as well as in the world.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed a COVID-19 relief fund launching ceremony on Saturday and asked Pakistani people not to be careless in taking precautions against the pandemic.
He added that the coronavirus is a two-fold challenge for Pakistan because the government needs to control its spread besides assisting the poor and needy people.
