At least 10 people were killed and 12 others injured Saturday after a goods truck carrying tiles overturned in western Indian state of Maharashtra, police said.
The accident took place near Tasagoan in Sangli district, about 365 km southwest of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra.
"Today a goods truck carrying tiles overturned here killing 10 people and injuring 12 others," a police official posted in Tasagoan police station told Xinhua.
The people who were killed or injured were riding in the truck as the accident happened. It is common in India for people to ride in goods trucks.
"Our team immediately rushed to the spot after being informed about the accident and are carrying out rescue work there."
Officials said that the injured were taken to nearest medical facility.
The cause of the accident was being investigated, the police official said.
According to an official report released last month, on average India witnessed over 400 deaths in road accidents every day during 2016.
Deadly road accidents are common in India, often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
