At least 14 soldiers have been killed and 17 wounded after some unidentified gunmen overran a military camp near Timbuktu in northern Mali early on Saturday, two army officers said.

One of the sources said armed men attacked the post in Soumpi around 6 am (0600 GMT).

Two enemies were also killed in the ambush, reports Reuters citing locals.

The search is still on for those missing.
