WE are seeing a hideous trend of embarking on arms race around the world exposing a greater threat to global peace and security. Worse still, the leaders who worked together towards enhancing prosperity and stability by controlling unbridled arms race taking cognizance of the welfare of human race, are the ones now welcoming consternation culture ignoring the interest of the global community. It was mentioned in the most recent reports that persons like US President-elect Donald Trump and his counterpart Russian President Vladimir Putin are encouraging this kind of lethal confrontation. To this, we cannot but express our feelings of frustration, disappointment and outrage to in this regard. We are at a loss to understand that at a time when the planet needs coordinated effort to avoid any volatile situation prevailing in the world. We wonder why these powerful leaders, who can otherwise play a pivotal role to tackle the situation by applying military and economic forces, are actually following this unscrupulous path instead of working in the greater interest of the world community.
We urge the powerful leaders of the world to refrain from this dangerous activity and call for an end to this menace forever. We look forward to their upholding of the spirit of humanity and a better role of change maker. We hope that the leaders like Trump and Putin would take all the steps necessary to reduce arms race that is increasing at an alarming pace. We request too that the latter would work together to eradicate illiteracy, vicious circle of poverty, malnutrition, child labour, terrorism and extremism, a greater threat of climate change and degradation of the environment and the likes around the world.
