MOST of us have withdrawn ourselves from reading books, although reading remains to be a source of unadulterated pleasure. The importance of reading books cannot be ignored or underestimated even in today's highly urbanized environment of digital world. Books offer knowledge and we store it in our memory. Books rescue us from boredom of monotonous modern life and open avenues for us to enjoy our life. Books help us create a world within us to have pleasure in our own way without bothering others in society.
Personally I have serious doubts if e-books will ever be able to replace the so-called old fashioned books in print. I sincerely feel books are our precious companions in our solitude or during a lonely long distance journey or even in traffic jams in the city as we are frequently stranded. The reading habit is on the decline among the members of the present generation, as they have so many options for entertainment. But we should encourage the young people to read books as it helps us to get rid of boredom, of loneliness, and expand our mental horizon and create an enlightened society. Nowadays, mobile book libraries are doing a praiseworthy job in creating new readers and helping to retain the reading habits. Let us read more books and enjoy more out of life.
