OUR Prime Minster deserves special thanks and gratitude for taking the initiative to provide the poor and destitute people with rice at only Tk10 a kg. I hope this will be done with complete transparency as we often see good initiative losing its way in the wilderness. The government should not allow any corruption and misuse in this respect. I hope the project will be monitored closely so that no discrepancies occur. The ultra-poor family will be able to buy 30 kg of rice under this project and it will surely help them to live their life with relative ease.
The government has allocated 750,000 kg of rice under this programme. The PM inaugurated the programme in Chilmari. Under the programme known as "the food programme for the ultra poor" the government should introduce ration cards for the poor so that they can procure many essential items at much cheaper prices and save a lot of money and thus raise their life standard. Kurigram has the highest rate of poverty in our country. So the district should be at the top of the priority list and the programme was rightly inaugurated there.
