World Teachers day is a special day celebrated through out the world on October 05 to express respect, honour and love towards teachers. It is also known as International Teachers Day.

It is extremely important to acknowledge the contribution of teachers to the society at large. The day thus offers an opportunity for students to express their respect and gratitude towards their teachers.

Teachers' day used to be observed on various dates in different countries around the world. In most countries Teacher's day was marked to celebrate the contribution of a famed person of high educational repute. Such as in Argentina, teacher's day was observed on September 11 on the occasion of death anniversary of Domingo Faustino Sarmento. India celebrated teacher's day on September 05 on the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. However, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared and recognised October 05 as World Teacher's Day in 1994. Now, more than 200 countries of the world observe World Teacher's Day with the theme declared by the UNESCO. This year's theme is "The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher."

Teachers help children in every step from the very beginning of their lives. Their attitude and behaviour are built from what they learn from the teachers. Now a days, teaching and learning take place in many forms. The rapid growth of the internet and technology has given us a lot of digital instruments to ensure that teaching and learning continue long after we have left traditional schooling.

Teachers perform a lot to keep our world refined and enlightened. They teach the children from pre-primary level to higher education. They guide their students at every age from childhood to maturity. They are the chief architects of the future citizens of a country and the world at large.

Teaching is a special occupation. Teachers groom their students to become responsible pillars of the society in future like doctors, engineers, agriculturists, teachers, architects and so on. Teachers have immense responsibility to make students responsible and enlightened citizens.

Teacher-Student relationship is one of the sweetest relations in the world. A teacher is a friend, a philosopher, and a guide. The role of teachers in nation building is inevitable.

Teacher's day is celebrated to express gratitude and acknowledge the role of the teachers in our life. A teacher plays a pivotal role in shaping the personality of a person. An ideal teacher is blessed with the power to imbibe in the minds of the learners the mental and intellectual faculty to think critically, analyse and earn the capability of distinguishing between right and wrong.

On this day, we should show our utmost gratitude, sincere love and respect towards all teachers of the world.
