WE pay our homage to the police officials who lost their lives in the recent spate of terrorist attacks. We also mourn the death of the Hindu lady who became an unfortunate victim of the tragic incident at Sholakia, Kishoreganj.
Many us are not aware of a 190-year-old tradition of preparing sharbat for devotees returning from Shiolakia at the end of Eid prayers. Accordingly, the son of this hapless mother wanted to go to prepare sharbat for the "musallis" returning from Sholakia Eidgha and had asked for his breakfast before doing so. The unfortunate mother stepped out of the main room to go to kitchen to prepare breakfast for her son when she was hit by a bullet and died instantly.
After every Eid-ul-Fitr prayer at the Sholakia Eidgha maidan the Hindu community living around the Eidgah offer sharbat to the devotees returning from the Eidgha maidan. This has been going on ever since people started saying their Eid prayers at this maidan which is a rare example of communal harmony.
In his world famous book " An Autobiography of an Unknown Indian", Nirod C. Chowdhury, who hails from Kishorganj, has mentioned about this unique Eid tradition of Kishorganj.
