Ramadan and young generation

RAMADAN is the holiest month of the year for Muslims. It is a period to refocus on spiritual matters, exercise patience and self-control. But the young generation of our country is more occupied during the ongoing Ramadan with their smartphones, posting and sharing images and videos that capture their experience; or looking to discover relevant Ramadan information that will help them get the most out of the holidays. There are also those who sleep through their fasting time till iftar. People log on to Facebook to display their fashion styles during Ramadan. We are actually wasting our valuable time which could have been utilised for better purposes. As we abstain from food and drinks at daytime, let us also keep fast from email, Facebook, WhatsApp and every other distraction that takes us away from Allah and deceptively pulls us towards what is purely temporary.
Ramadan is a time to focus on the bigger things of life and to remember our purposes as Muslims. Our great Prophet Muhammad (sm) said, "Ramadan has come to you. It is a month of blessing, in which Allah covers you with blessing, for He sends down Mercy, decreases sins and answers prayers. In it, Allah looks at your competition (in good deeds), and boasts about you to His angels. So show Allah goodness from yourselves, for the unfortunate one is he who is deprived in (this month) of the mercy of Allah, the Mighty, the Exalted" (Tabarani).
