RAINY season is just around the corner and we are indeed worried to think about the days ahead. Dhaka is one of the mega cities of the world. Compared to its population size, we do not see its infrastructure being developed. Many of Dhaka roads are in a dilapidated condition and now as the rainy season approaches, it will become increasingly difficult to move from one place to another. Muddy and broken roads will make the roads difficult to commute. It is also very risky as muddy and slippery roads often become death traps for vehicles and commuters. Due only to the condition of the road during monsoon we see the transports asking higher fairs and also a fewer number of vehicles plying on the roads. Most of the roads go underwater and increase the sufferings of commuters. Women, children and elderly people are the worst sufferers. The appalling condition of many roads aggravate further after a bout of rain. For example, roads near Mouchak market, Malibagh and Rampura areas become almost impossible to travel. I hope the authority concerned will look into this matter and reduce the sufferings of the city dwellers.
