IT is indeed very sad to know about the demise of our eminent poet Shahid Quadri who was living in New York. He has been one of our premier poets. He was honoured with Bangla Academy Award in 1973. He also received Ekushey Podok, the highest national award of Bangladesh, for language and literature in 2011.
There are a large number of people in our country who love poetry and poets. The writings of Shahid Quadri inspired many readers to become poetry lovers. His poetry has been translated in many languages and has been appreciated by poetry lovers. A nation's life is incomplete if there is no poetry and poets. Poets inspire us to know the unknown, to see the secrets of life and guide us to win the invincible. Life and the world would be dull without the presence of poets amongst us. Poetry touches our hearts and makes us more humane and compassionate. Surely Bangla literature will miss Shahid Quadri a lot. He will always live in our hearts. May his soul rest in eternal peace!
