THERE are no plants in many areas of Rajshahi-Dhaka highway. The highway looks barren and some trees should be planted to add beauty to the road.
As we know that climate change is having its adverse effects on Bangladesh, planting trees on roadsides would not only beautify the roads and their surroundings, but would also protect us from natural calamities. We see the sea level rising and a part of the country would be under water in future. Planting trees will also protect us from salinity intrusion. On the other hand, roads are in a very poor shape and repair work should be undertaken. A four track highway should be developed to ensure better connectivity.
