THE Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) elections were held in a festive mood and the voters gathered at the polling stations to elect their favourite candidates. After a long time we saw a free and fair election taking place without any untoward incident. The conscious people of the country were glad to see peaceful and fair voting. It has been proved beyond doubt that if the government and the Election Commission want, a free and fair election like this can be held. Ivy won the mayoral election by a popular mandate and her clean image and strong stand against criminalisation, and personal charisma helped her retain her office. Ivy is like a breath of fresh air in our politics and the political parties should select good candidates like Ivy for all elections. She has proved once again that one can be a leader loved by people without money and muscle power. We hope that during her next tenure Narayanganj will continue to be developed more and space for the criminals shrinks further. We congratulate the newly elected Mayor of Nayaranganj and wish her all the best in future.
