The nagging traffic gridlock

DHAKA city and traffic jam have been synonymous. Dhaka city is characterised by perennial traffic congestions which often grip the city and one does not know how long it will take to move from one place to another. It was predictable a few years ago, but now it has become almost impossible for any one to specify the length of time required to reach from one place to another. Now it takes hours to cover a distance which was otherwise only a 15-minute drive due to huge traffic gridlock.
The situation has been further aggravated recently as road digging for utility lines is going on almost everywhere across the city.  Day by day, the traffic situation in Dhaka city is deteriorating. The situation is further exacerbated due to lack of coordination among the utility service-providers. One particular road is being dug several times which leads to immense sufferings of the people. For instance, construction work is going on in Gulshan-1, Malibagh-Moghbazar flyover area, Asad Gate, Shyamoli and many other places and that too at a snail's pace. In order to save the people from agonising traffic jam, the ongoing road construction works should be completed by the concerned authorities at the earliest. We appeal to the city corporations to take up the matter on priority basis and complete the ongoing road construction and repair projects quickly and let the commuters have a breathing space.
