RAJSHAHI Kings made light work of Khulna Titans completing a seven-wicket victory at Mirpur to reach the final against Dhaka Dynamites. In front of a small crowd at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, they restricted Khulna to a lowly 125 for 9 before knocking off the total with four balls to spare.
Their efficient bowling performance ensured a maiden appearance in the tournament's final after their previous franchise (Duronto Rajshahi) failed to do so in the 2012 and 2013 editions.
But it was not an altogether smooth chase for Rajshahi. They lost their openers Mominul Haque and Nurul Hasan within 4.2 overs after which youngster Afif Hossain led the recovery with a 33-run third-wicket stand with Sabbir Rahman. He fell lbw to Mahmudullah in the 12th over after hitting three fours in his 27-ball 26.
The final of the 4th BPL edition will be played today and everyone is looking forward to see a pulsating finish to the tournament. The Rajshahi Kings surprised everyone and reached the final to lock their horns with favourites Dhaka Dynamites and it will be an interesting battle to see. The defending champions Comilla Victorians just could not make it to the final round and they were eliminated. For the young talents of Bangladesh BPL proved to be a grand platform as they were playing with great international cricketers like Darren Sammy, Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi. Playing with quality cricketers gave them the confidence to play in the international arena. The young Bangladeshi cricketers were also seen shinning with commendable performances. This year BPL went on very smoothly so far without any controversy. BPL is doing a good job to nurture our budding cricketers and I am sure many of them will make it to the national eleven. BPL has come to stay.
