THE other day I was going to my office at Motijheel by a rickshaw. In course of the ride, the elderly rickshaw-puller told me that his son has got an opportunity to study in Notre Dame College this year and he was really proud of his son. He further informed me that he hailed from a remote village of Jamalpur district and had been making a living by pulling rickshaw for a long time. His son was a meritorious student and got A+ from the village school. The teachers of the school were proud of him.Â
I asked him how he was going to manage his son's educational expenses. He told me that his son has got scholarships both from his institution and some other banks. Moreover he will also share some of the expenses from his daily income. Lastly he told me that he wished his son would get a chance to study in Dhaka University. I wondered how could a rickshaw-puller bring his son up in this manner. He could easily engage him in his own profession or any other odd job.Â
