SWIMMING is the most effective full body exercise. There are very few exercises that take care of our entire body at the same time. There are hundreds of thousands of people in our country who love swimming. But unfortunately scope for swimming in our cities is gradually shrinking as number of water bodies is diminishing. The water bodies in and around Dhaka city have been fast disappearing making way for unplanned urbanization. At present there are very few water bodies in the city where one can jump in and enjoy swimming. The city is now almost devoid of water bodies. Again among the very few water bodies left in Dhaka, some have been grabbed by influential people and structures are either built or being built. The city corporations should free these water bodies from the grabbers so that we can have a few places to stretch our selves. Swimming is a great workout as we need to move our whole body against the tough resistance of water. Swimming is good cardiovascular exercise that helps us burn our calories. It also takes away stresses from us and helps us to relax and enjoy. Swimming builds our endurance capacity and strengthens our muscle. When we are in the water, we only feel 10 per cent of our body weight, which helps us to avoid injuries. The authorities should not allow water bodies to be occupied by land grabbers and keep those free so that they can be used for swimming.
