Students and bus service

AS per commitments of the two mayors of Dhaka, the government is increasing the number of buses plying in the city. This is really an appreciable move by the government. The government should now pay attention to the service quality provided especially for students.
As most of the passengers of mass transport in our country are students who come from middle class or lower middle class families, they have to use bus on a regular basis. But bus fare is increasing day by day and going beyond their ability (For example, from Mirpur to Rampura Tk 35/Tk 40, Gabtoli to Airport/Uttara Tk 40). The service quality of these buses is also poor. The bus companies charge seating service fares but do not provide seats for all passengers. That is why passengers have been regularly demanding that the buses should not carry passengers beyond their capacities. It is particularly very difficult for female students to avail of bus service. This is a sad state of affairs and we hope that the government will pay attention to improve bus service for students.
