DHAKA has been rated as the second most polluted city in the world after Delhi. Not surprisingly so, as we can see it with our naked eyes. Until recently China was the top country in the world in terms of air pollution, but due to the timely action of the government, the situation has been fast improving. We can follow the footsteps of China and learn how it is tackling the issue.Â
Exposure to air pollution is the main environmental threat to human health in many towns and cities. Particulate emission is mainly responsible for increased death rate and respiratory problems for the urban population. Air of Dhaka is being polluted day by day very badly. We have to make our city greener so that we can lessen the negative impact of air pollution. We see many construction works going on in Dhaka in a big way without taking proper safety measures. Most construction sites have no curtain to obstruct the infiltrating into the air. During the monsoon however air pollution is much reduced due to rain. Especially during the winter the degree of air pollution rises to its peak. It is high time we became aware of the effects of air pollution so that we could take proper care to prevent it. Â
