THIS refers to this writer's 'letter to editor' titled "Nature lover par excellence" published in your letters column on February 10. The daily involved has gifted the poor rickshaw-puller a handsome amount of Taka one hundred thousand as published on the front page of February 23 issue. This writer was happy and proud of the daily's generous reward to Abdus Samad Sheikh, a poor rickshaw-puller who sincerely cared for the environment and was indeed a man of "no talk and all action". This is a unique example of recognising and awarding a rare honour to a person by a local newspaper. The unexpected financial reward was indeed an answer of Samad Sheikh's dreams that has unexpectedly now come true.Â
I hope, the concerned daily's local correspondent (who reported this matter at first) takes a little more trouble so that the poor rickshaw puller's sudden financial reward is properly utilised and invested. That will ensure the poor family's future. This is a great and real life example of "a friend in need is a friend in deed".Â
