READING a book, fiction or non-fiction, is a healthy habit. But sadly it is gradually becoming a forgotten habit and people are moving away from reading books in alarming numbers.
Once reading was a very popular mode of entertainment around the world so much so that very popular movies were made based on popular books written by eminent authors.
Now the number of literate people has increased manifold but number of readers has not increased proportionately.
The new generation today prefers computer, Internet, TV, Video games etc. to reading books. But the fact remains that books are still enriching and rewarding in terms of offering knowledge.
That is why there still are lot of people who love and enjoy reading books as is apparent from hundreds of thousands of people swarming in at the Ekushe Book Fair at Bangla Academy every year.
Reading books enhances our sphere of knowledge and boosts our analytical ability. It enriches our vocabulary that helps us do better in our working lives.
Let us read books regularly and encourage our children to do the same.
