AGE limit for recruitment and retirement age for public servants had been 27 and was 57 years respectively for a long time. The entry age was increased to 30 years in 1991 just before the 13th BCS exam. But the retirement age was increased by two years much before the logical time. Â
Today, I hear that the Cabinet has decided to increase the retirement age to 59 years. I strongly feel that the retirement age should not be logically increased for several reasons. As the entry age limit was increased by three years, so increasing the retirement age by three years (in two instalments) is reasonable. But public service should be imbibed with fresh and younger blood and increasing the retirement age by two years would hamper that. In addition, the younger employees should have scope for promotion that would be hindered by an increase in the retirement age of older ones.
