PUBLIC transport in Dhaka is not well designed. Apart from an unbearable traffic jam, there is a mad rush among passengers to secure a small space in public transports. Dhaka is particularly a nightmarish place for women, children and elderly people who want to commute from one place to another. We see women passengers standing helplessly for a long time because they cannot get up on a bus. When a bus comes passengers rush like a swarm of bees. Sometimes the drivers engage themselves in racing competition without thinking about the safety of the passengers and other vehicles. In the name of "sitting service" what is going on is nothing but "cheating service". The government must bring back discipline in the transport sector and provide much-needed respite for the common people.
