AT office you must have seen some people getting more benefit than others not because of their ability to work but their ability to convince their bosses in some ways. The ultimate losers are those innocent hardworking employees. You may wonder when you see that these employees are getting every facility from the management. They get promotion and other facilities before due time. Whereas more efficient employees do not get much appreciation or facilities what they actually deserve.Â
Human beings are different from other creatures of the world. Every human being is unique and different from others in respect of attributes. In an organization, various types of people are recruited as per its requirement. They come from different backgrounds. After recruiting them, the organization trains them through different orientation processes as per the organization's rules and regulations. When the newly recruited employees are assigned to different jobs, the new employees try to adjust with the situation of the new environment. Now, the new employees do their best to do work hard and try to keep their bosses happy.Â
In certain cases, all employees of the same grade do not get proper appreciation at the time of evaluation. Some qualified employees do not get promotion or others facilities. On the other hand, comparatively less qualified employees get all the benefit they want. Actually they know how to convince their bosses and how to use reference power. We know, reference power, in a sense has positive meaning. We have learnt about reference power in leadership which means one of the abilities of a leader is to get his/her work done through subordinates. In this case reference power has a positive meaning. But what will happen if an employee gets promotion or other benefits through use of reference power (i.e. if the employees have relatives in higher management, or in government or other references)? In this case, reference power means something negative. So, if it happens so, there is going to be a severe problem at some point of time. An organization will lose meritorious and hardworking employees. Therefore, organizations should give them proper benefits in consideration of their merit and dedication to their service.Â
An organization should treat all its employees equally irrespective of reference power. This will add speed in every aspect of the organization and will add value in the long run. Every organization has different human resource policy and apart from human resource policy, an organization should follow ILO's (International Labour Organization) rules and regulations strictly.
