THE water bodies in and around Dhaka city are really in a bad condition, and we can see it during the winter when the water flow is very low. Â It looks more like drain water than anything else. The water bodies are playing an important part for our environment and we should protect it. We have been polluting our water bodies carelessly which is an irresponsible act. Â If we cause trouble to Mother Nature, it will pay us back in our coins. The deteriorating water quality of Buriganga is evident.
I remember during my childhood in early 1980s, the water of Buriganga was crystal clear and we all used to enjoy boat ride on it, but the water now gives a pungent smell. It should not be so and let us wake up and take steps to save similar water bodies of the country and make the country a liveable place for us and our future generation. Â We must not forget that water is just another name of life.
