A news about 'refrigerant gas', published in a newspaper on February 20 drew my attention. The newly developed 'refrigerant gas' will reduce electricity consumption of all 'refrigerators and deep-freezes' which are used in households, restaurants, hotels, offices and for preservation of fresh vegetables, fruits, medicines and processed meats and other edible products. The  shelf life of this items will increase and their spoilage decrease. It will obviously  reduce overall power consumption.
To encourage and support the use of refrigerant gas called 'R600a', relevant government and public sector authorities should opt for its increased use. It will also help us reduce import of coal, oil and gases needed for power generation. The government should consider the matter expeditiously, so that by the end of next financial year or even earlier, we can take necessary steps to bring in the new refrigerant gas which will have a positive impact on the national economy.Â
