IN an overpopulated Dhaka city, facilities for water drainage are inadequate. As a result, whenever there are some rains we see most of the roads going under water. The commuters have a terrible time and particularly so because of the existing conditions of roads at Dhaka. Too many roads are in a broken shape in addition to potholes all over which makes and understandably so commuting difficult for pedestrians. We are now at the beginning of a wet season when rain and storm are regular affairs. Rainy season or monsoon is just ahead of us. During rainy season manholes and potholes pose great threats for the commuters and add to their miseries. Women, elderly persons and children are the worst sufferers during this season. Rampant use of poly bags makes the situation worse as littering of wastes including poly bags clog the drainage system of the city. In spite of sincere efforts of the government to prohibit use of poly bags people are yet to stop using the same. All shops and business establishments including super stores are using poly bags indiscriminately.
I hope the two Dhaka City Corporations will look into the matter of present road condition and coordinate repair works of the roads with the concerned Ministry and will also seriously take up with WASA the matter of clogging of the drainage system due to indiscriminate disposal of poly bags.
