Metro rail in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is overcrowded with one of the highest density of populations in the world. The pressure of population is mostly severe on cities as elsewhere in the world. Two of our biggest and most populated cities Dhaka and Chittagong have the perennial problem of traffic congestion. The problem of traffic congestion however owes mainly to ignorance or wilful negligence of traffic rules. Other contributing factors are: narrow roads, lack of public transport and too many private vehicles.
To mitigate the problem, the government has undertaken a plan to construct metro rail in Dhaka city which will cover the busy roads of Uttara, Pallabi, Mirpur, Kajipara, Agargaon, Shewrapara, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, Dhaka University Area and Motijheel. Initially it is planned to cover 20.1 kilometre area by 24 metro trains which will carry nearly 60,000 passengers per hour. The waiting time will be less than four minutes per train. It is expected that the metro rail will reduce traffic jam by half. People expect that the metro rail will allow them a safe and sound journey at affordable costs.
