THE great author Mahashweta Devi has died at the age of 90. Her death has left a permanent void in the world of Bangla literature. She was born in Dhaka in 1926 and migrated to West Bengal. A celebrity writer Mahasweta Devi was also a journalist and social worker. Her novel "Hajar Churasir Maa" was made into a Hindi movie in 1998 and won the national award as the best feature film. Her other notable literary works include "Aronnar Odhikar",
"Jhasir Rani" and "Titumir". Many of her works were converted into movies like "Rudali, "Mati Maay" and "Gangor". I hope our media will telecast some of the movies based on the literary works of Mahasweta Devi so that the common people can get to know more about her.
