High price of internet: An obstacle to digitalisation

Internet users in the country have long been demanding that the price of the internet should be brought down so that more and more people can use it and contribute to digitalisation process of the country and enhance our quality of life. In the country, the price of talking time of mobile phones has been reduced greatly, but price of internet use remained high. Price of one-minute talk time which was Tk.7.00 for mobile phones until recently has been reduced to as low as 30 paisa. If the internet price is similarly reduced, the number of users will rise automatically. We should not forget that computer and internet are no longer articles of luxury, both are instrumental in disseminating education. Many people who cannot afford internet due to its high price are eventually being deprived of this gift of modern technology. The internet connects us with the rest of the world and it has become an integral part of our life today. The government aims at digitalising Bangladesh but that I am afraid will not be easy if price of internet is not made affordable.
