THE news appeared in an English daily on December 22 and should be published in all dailies to create increased awareness for our people. The important discovery which was about an agricultural preservative will greatly help increase our overall agricultural production by reducing the production lost to insects and similar other vermin. The preservative, named 'Chitosan' was discovered by Dr. Mubarak Ahmad Khan, a scientist of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. It was first tried out successfully in a pineapple growing farm in Modhupur area in Tangail.
His method was based on a radiation process and is a far cheaper way of producing this very useful and much needed food preservative. It should now be commercially developed across the country and as well as exported to other countries. The government should promote this important discovery and also declare rewards for Dr. Khan for this great achievement. It will be a great blessing for agriculture in Bangladesh in the days to come. Further, it will also eliminate the need for any further import of preservative in Bangladesh.
We salute Dr. Khan for his outstanding discovery.
