IT is indeed fascinating to see young Bangladeshi chess FIDE master 13-year-old Fahad winning 14th Dubai junior chess tournament. Once chess was quite popular in our country, but the enthusiasm dried out lately. Fahad is a chess prodigy and given the right kind of facilities and encouragement, he can bring home many more successes for the country. Â Strong competitors from India and Ukraine participated in the Dubai tournament and so it was not a cakewalk for Fahad. I hope talents like Fahad will not be lost due to our negligence.
Niaz Murshed, first South Asian chess grand master, made chess popular in our country as he won many laurels. Â I wish all the best for the young chess genius and hope he will inspire more Bangladeshis to play chess and win many competitions.
