Environmental and social club

We, a group of teachers and students of the East West University embarked on a novel venture to form an Environmental and Social Club that took off in September, 1999 with a vision to save life and earth through different environmental and social activities. An Assistant Professor of Business Administration is the moderator of the club. The club consists of five executive committee members. The club invites general students to join the club on a regular basis throughout the year with a view to creating awareness through social work. At present the club works with several projects. First, club activity is "Poruader Ashor" which was established in 2012 and now it is divided into two parts. One part teaches small children and another part teaches old people. Several students of this school now are enrolled in formal schools and one of them also passed the JSC examination in 2016. It is a great success for this club. The secondly is "Gachh Bondhu". In every semester a 3-day tree fair is arranged on the campus. Recently it has arranged a day-log rooftop gardening training programme for 120 students in cooperation with the Horticulture Centre. They received training on roof-top gardening, urban tree plantation and interior tree plantation. Recently they arranged a "Pushpo mela" at East West University. The third activity is "Mindgym" which started in June, 2014. Its main work is to redress the mental worries of students. It has launched on-line counselling in January 2015 through its' Facebook page and Facebook group. The fourth activity is "Green Riders" with an aim to promote environment-friendly and healthy transport for the urban population. The fifth activity is "Good News" which is an on-line platform for sharing students' achievements, activities and aspirations. It publicizes student activities through FB group, wall magazine, and printed magazines. The last one is "Save Environment, Save Food, Save Life". The primary goal of this programme is to create awareness of healthy management of lifestyle, healthy food and diet control, physical fitness, stress control and so on.
We narrated the activities of the club to inspire our friends in other universities to undertake similar ventures. We do many other works and we shall gradually inform and exchange ideas about the same. We sincerely want that an extensive social awareness and a deep social commitment can be the motto of our generation.
