WHEN we go to doctors they hand us a long list of pathological tests that usually costs us a big chunk of money. Many patients cannot afford such expenses and have to borrow money from others to foot the medical bills. It is alleged that the doctors earn a hefty commission from the concerned diagnostic centres out of the bills paid by patients. The government, particularly the Health Ministry should look into the matter and stop this malpractice if it is found true. Medical profession is a noble profession and it should not be devoid of compassion for humanity.Â
It is alleged that doctors receive 30 to 40 per cent commission from diagnostic laboratories for every test conducted by them on their prescriptions. It is too denigrating for the profession. Diagnostic centres pay commission to doctors so that the latter are encouraged to prescribe more tests for patients to earn more money. We know all doctors are not involved in these malpractices, some of them are. The government should take action against the dishonest so that doctors in general are not labelled as dishonest.
