Combined test for tertiary education

EARLY this year, a news item titled "No one admitted in four departments of RUET" drew my attention. The departments were Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Mechanical Engineering (ME). 2,500 students out of a total of 8,000 appearing at the admission test came out successful. The successful students got admission in only three departments out of 14.
Annually, students apply for post-HSC admission in BUET, RUET, DU, RU and other public universities. All the forms of admission tests are expensive plus travelling from one university to another solely for the exams involves high expenses - a matter of anxiety for guardians.
Meanwhile, the country's President urged to concerned authorities for making admissions in the tertiary level easier. He also suggested the students to relax and enjoy their time following the end of exams.
Since the government has earned laudable success in post-SSC admission to colleges, a similar system can be developed for admission to universities after HSC exams. Alternatively, a combined test can be arranged for all public universities. If necessary, private universities may also be brought under the combined test.
