City streets swarming with beggars

AS we step out of the house any time during the day we are bound to be confronted by beggars. Unfortunately, many of the beggars are children. We see them begging in and around the city and particularly at traffic control points on the streets. It is well-known that that these children are engaged by elderly beggars mainly to draw the attention of the people. Many of the beggars are begging more out of habit than necessity. They have taken up begging as a profession and prefer to beg rather than doing hard work for a living. We see the number of beggars increasing drastically during the holy month of Ramadan.  Of these beggars there are many able bodied people engaged in begging on one excuse or the other because they find begging is easier and more profitable. The government has a strong role to play to eradicate begging from the society. The beggars should be compelled to work and refrain from begging. Laws should be so framed so that they are forced to work like any other working people in the society and contribute to national income.
