Burning wastes a threat to health

In winter, we see garbage are being burnt in many places. This garbage burning is very much harmful for environment and our health.  Garbage contains a lot of plastics and paper treated with chemicals etc. Burning plastic, rubber or other man-made materials creates dioxin and other dangerous toxics in the air, soil and groundwater.
Burning wastage is not a healthy practice. Whether it is just household trash, leaves, papers, plastic, waste materials. This common practice in our country should be stopped immediately to reduce the pollution. Recycle, re use are the better options of all time. Reduce the number of packets you are taking, buy less and don't waste much. Keep your garbage where it should be kept.  Compost leaves & garden waste. Recycle what you can and recycling should be done by government in big projects. Say 'No' to burning wastage to keep the environment healthy.
Burning waste also pollutes people and the environment. A research says mercury, dioxins, lead, and other pollutants come from burning waste. In terms of climate impacts, incinerators emit more carbon dioxide (CO2) per unit of electricity than coal-fired power plants. The smoke from the burning are released primarily into the air, and close to ground level where they are easily inhaled. It pollutes air and the ashes near a lake or pond also pollute the water also.
Heavy metals such as mercury are highly toxic, can accumulate in the body until they reach lethal levels, causing organ failure and death. Non toxic levels can however cause respiratory or intestinal problems, disruption of effects of the body's hormone system, inhibition of growth and development. It can cause learning disorders, infertility, immune system problems, asthma and even cancer. Children are always at highest risk of being affected.
