Transportation has become a big issue of our time. Most people of Dhaka travel by rickshaws, which is one of the major causes of traffic jam. Travelling by rickshaw is again costly and time consuming. The mounting problem of public transport in Dhaka can only be solved easily if the government provides more buses to the BRTC, the state-run public transport agency.
The BRTC is a semi-autonomous corporation under the Ministry of Communication. The governing body includes the communication minister, the communication secretary, the director of the corporation, and other officials. It provides both passenger and cargo transport services. It operates three international bus services (Dhaka to Kolkata, Agartala, and Siliguri in India). Inside Bangladesh, it operates inter-district bus services from its bus depots in Chittagong, Bogra, Comilla,Pabna, Rangpur, Barisal, and Sylhet.
In Dhaka the number of busses is inadequate and the number of passengers on most occasions is more than the number of seats. If the government expands BRTC services and provides additional buses, it will be a lot easier for our people to travel. People will be able to attend office timely and it will also be very helpful for university or college students who come from far off places.
