RECENTLY I had been to China on a twelve day official visit and I travelled to various places like Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Beijing and Dandong near the China-North Korea border. I availed the high speed bullet trains in most cases. A 1300 kilometre journey took 5 to six hours as the bullet trains travelled at a maximum of 306 kilometres per hour. I found train journey more comfortable than flight. I never felt like I was travelling at 300 kilometre speed per hour as the trains were so smooth and pleasant. It was a memorable journey and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Bangladesh railway should think about introducing similar high speed trains to reduce the sufferings of the commuters. At the moment, we do not need trains with a speed of 300 kilometres per hour, but trains with speed of 150 to 200 kilometres per hour will be fine. High speed trains will bring down the journey time from one place to another. I hope the Bangladesh government will consider introducing high speed trains in Bangladesh.
