ACCORDING to media reports, demand for Bangladeshi female workers is increasing in the developed world and it is an opportunity for us to exploit the situation to our advantage. Due to their poor skill and lack of training the Bangladeshi women get less salary and facilities abroad. But if we can train them properly, they will be able to get higher salaries along with better facilities. A 21-day training is now being conducted for female workers which is not sufficient. At least three months' training course is needed to make them acquire higher skills. The UAE, Singapore and Saudi Arabia are popular destinations for our female workers. Foreign employers are ready to pay a higher salary, if the recruits can speak workable English and communicate with ease. Workers should be given practical knowledge about their work so that they can easily adjust in foreign conditions and do not feel lost. It is high time the government looked into it more seriously so that our women became skilled and were offered lucrative jobs abroad.
